Project ASICHIP - R&D on front-end ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) incorporating high performance TDCs and ADCs

Project ASICHIP is funded by PETsys Electronics SA, PO Regional Lisboa (Lisbon Region's Operational Program), PORTUGAL 2030 and FEDER (European Fund for Regional Development) - European Comission (Project 25382).

This project aims to develop front-end ASICs (Application-Specific Integrated Circuits) featuring high-resolution TDCs (Time-to-Digital Converters) and ADCs (Analog-to-Digital Converters), with high integration density and low power consumption. These mixed-mode circuits are critical components in state-of-the-art medical PET scanners - used for the early detection of cancer - as well as in high-precision particle physics detectors and scientific instruments for astronomical observation.

ToF-PET is a new paradigm in medical PET image allowing an order of magnitude gain in cancer detection sensitivity. PETsys Electronics SA develops and markets Electronic and Detection modules for ToF-PET based in the TOFPET ASIC resulting from a R&D project. Based on the experience with the existing R&D prototype, and after having designed the new ASIC version (TOFPET2) improving its performance and robustness, conditions are created to keep leading the world market of electronic systems for ToF-PET, through the new TOFPET3 ASIC.
